Salem and Beverly Water Supply Media Publication

Water Supply Update and Drought Restrictions

Updated April 10, 2025

This publication is being issued to update the customers that utilize drinking water provided by the Salem and Beverly Water Supply Board (the Board) about the status of their water supply.

The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has adopted new Water Management Act Regulations. These new regulations have a regional decision-making focus on dry periods with levels ranging from “No Drought” to a “Level 4 Drought”. On April 9, 2025, the DEP revised the drought condition in the Northeast Region from Level 3 (Critical) to level 2 (Significant). This declaration requires all water systems in the region to implement specific actions and notices to all the water users, regardless of how much water they have available, and to limit all nonessential outdoor water uses to hoses and watering cans after 5pm and before 9am until the drought condition has improved.

The Board’s storage capacity remains at 100% of its water supply at approximately 4 Billion Gallons maintained in the three reservoirs the Board manages. This is a typical situation for the Board, due to the robust water supply system the Board owns, maintains, and the two cities have invested in.

We can assure you that the Board has adequate water supplies, but we ask you all to refrain from watering outdoors and conserve all the water you are able.

We greatly appreciate your cooperation in this matter, and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Board.
